What has worked for us is Jiffy corn mix, sprinkle it outside the rooms where they are coming in-fresh from the box, do not bake. The workers take this back to the colony and it kills them, but not the queen. She is responsible for reproduction and needs poison to end her.

Another product we have used is Terro, available at Walmart and other diy stores, it is a liquid, just put a drop on the provided cardboard and the ants love it. We even place it in a parade and the flock to it. This may take several days and you'll see an increase in numbers of them because they are feeding , then they will be gone.

Keep in mind when ants travel, they leave a pheromone trail to let other ants know where they have gone and found food, this has to be cleaned up with what is safe to use on your counters. It wipes out the path leaving newly entering ants confused and without a path to follow.

I use packaged cornbread mix that says it is sweetened and put it where they are. They will take it to the mound, everyone will eat it and die, they can't digest the cornmeal, but will take it because it is sweetened. Little goes a long way.

Medicated powder from the Dollar Tree. It has eucalyptus in it...menthol...I puff it around my homes foundation..and inside under my birdcages in the cracks under moldings. Work immediately and they never come back. I do this at the first sign of ants..in one day..GONE. The powder is in a very large container and lasts quite awhile too !! And smells great !

Ants are so weird. One time I found them inside the freezer in the garage!! What would possess them to go inside a freezer only to die? They must have sent signals back or something ~ there were no ant trails only a freezer full of dead ants. Hasn't happened since.
