How to declutter a 3 story house that hasn't been done since 2001?

...same with decluttering... one room at a time. ...and be ruthless... if it doesn't bring JOY throw it or or donate.

One room at a time. When clearing out items, ask yourself if this item is one you would take with if you relocated to an other state. If it is put in the to keep box. If not put it in the donate box. The 3rd box is for paper work.

Start with things that are clearly garbage. Walk from room to room with garbage bags. Throw them out.

I agree with the others. You need to take it one room at a time. Create 3 piles (or plastic bags or boxes) and label them Keep, Toss, and Donate. Every piece needs a decision. As Nan said, if it doesn't bring you joy - toss or donate that item. It will take some time but once it's done, you will feel great. Wishing you the best.

Hire a professional organizer, even if just for one day. They will teach you the tools to tackle the rest on your own. Even kids can help. Get them to start on their own spaces. 3 piles, trash, donate or sell and keep piles. A cluttered house is a cluttered mind and extremely inefficient. I shudder to think how much time is wasted looking for things instead of placing things back where they belong. Then you have oodles of time for fun activities. 🌞
