How can I preserve a 1930's painted table top?
How can I preserve the painted top of my grandmother’s (1930’s) peeling kitchen wooden table? I don’t want to strip and redo, but to stop the peeling right where it is. I like the chipped/peeled look to far, but it is peeling more each day, especially with even gentle wipe-downs after use. It is a solid creamy color with designs painted on at all four corners. I have been afraid that more paint would come off if I tried to coat with a shellac or other similar product. Any ideas? Thanks!

Maude: you could always gt a piece of glass cut to top the table.
Thx, but the table is very irregular shaped, graduated corners and curvy corners. I’m thinking that might not be the solution since it’s not square or rectangular. I should have mentioned this in my question. Thx again.
Hi Maude. Miss Mustard Seed talks about peeling and chipping paint a lot on her blog and she always recommends a clear top coat to get it to stop chipping. Here is a great post where she describes how to clean and seal it. Hope this helps! https://missmustardseed.com/cleaning-sealing-chipping-antique-pieces/
Tyvm! The piece she Is showing in her how-to even looks a lot like the condition of my table, not quite so severe. So I think this may work!
