Update your old worn out furniture with a fresh new whitewashed raw wood look.

Before

We found these old nightstands for cheap on marketplace.

When I went to prep them for paint with a light scuff sand, I noticed the old finish was coming off wayyy too easily.

Since the old finish was coming off easily, I decided to bust out the power sander and sand it down to raw wood.

This was the most time consuming step, and the most challenging, to make sure I didn't sand through the thin wood veneer.

At this point I wanted a to keep the raw wood finish, but I wanted to protect the wood, without deepening the wood or bringing out any orangey wood tones.

So, after the nightstands were sanded down to raw wood, I sealed them with water based poly to make the next step easier to work with.

Then I gave them a quick whitewash (simply white paint thinned out with water) to make the wood look lighter.

After the whitewash was dry, I sealed them again with 3 coats of water-based poly for durability and to protect the new finish.

The old knobs were updated with new clear knobs as a final touch!
