How do we keep snakes out of our yard?

We are looking for ways to keep snakes out of our yard. Any suggestions?

Get dogs and cats
Always keep your grass short and your shrubs trimmed, Debbie. Keep firewood away from the house and keep pet food inside. They also don't like the smell of mothballs or sulfer. A spray with cinnamon and clove oil will also help.
Snake fencing. If they are garden snakes then you do want them around as they must be feeding on rats and mice. Tidy up the property and they will move on.

I live in rattlesnake country on the edge of civilization, I get at least 2 or 3 calls a day to come get snakes.
