How do I repurpose a kitchen table top?

I have a kitchen table that with white tile squares over the whole top of it with wood trim. My mom bought it for me and I would like to repurpose the top. I have thought of painting a small scene in some of the squares or transferring pictures onto them, any suggestions?

Yes, you can do that. Another thought is putting wood over the top. If you do put a picture on it, please post the project. I would love to see that.
You could stencil the tiles on the table. Whatever you are into go to amazon.com and look for stencils in that area. That would personalize it for you.
