You will need to sand the areas you want to paint for the paint to stick. I would suggest using a Rustoleum type paint made for metal. Spray paint will look smoother than using a brush and light coats will avoid drips. Use painters tape to mark off the areas you want to paint, If you are worried about getting the paint on other areas, form fit some newspaper to cover those areas.
