How can I cover a plain lamp shade with fabric?

My husband has a special chair that he sits in to read the paper or any other type of reading material. I would like to cover a plain white lamp shade with a fabric that looks like newspaper articles. I have seen some like this in fabric stores before. I'm not sure how to cut, fold or apply it to the lamp shade. thanks for the help, and for all the great ideas.icon

You can cover a lamp shade with fabric. In fact there are a few tutorials on Hometalk. I personally thought this one is how I would do it if I were doing the project...https://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/rooms/custom-fabric-lampshade-30812618

This sounds like a cool project. I just wanted to throw out another idea if you haven't thought of it. Have you thought about taking actual newspapers clips and modge podge 'ing it to the lampshade. It may be easier than using fabric cut perfectly over the shade and gluing it. Good luck!

yes It can be a little tricky. You can use the modgepodge on the back side to glue it in place. Then the modge podge is foam brushed on top as a sealer. The tricky part is using a roller to flatten it and then when the modge podge goes on top... you have to squeegee the top smooth. It’s been a while that I have done modge podge but on a lampshade surface it might be even more difficult because it’s not a hard surface. Yeah I would say if you aren’t totally comfortable with modge podge then maybe go with the fabric covering. Ha. Sounds like a fun idea!!
