Dog peeing in house?

We have a 6 year old chawawa. He has never peed or pooped in the house until the last year! Nothing that we have tried works. Does anyone have an idea or solution?

    Could he have a uti?

  • I have a Chihuahua too. Notoriously stubborn and hard to housebreak. Since yours only started this, my best guess is: 1. There is an underlying, not yet diagnosed health issue like a UTI. Or 2. Something spooked him outside and is now afraid. How often do you take him out? Do you have a pet door? Out of an abundance of caution, I would schedule a vet visit to rule out any health concerns. Then go from there. Have you tried the piddle pads?

    • So welcome Gail! Excellent. Keep us posted! I am a huge animal lover and have a houseful of rescue and hand me down pets from those that have passed on. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that it is nothing serious! I am in CA and know vet bills can escalate rapidly. If there is something going on, better to get it before it causes damage and treatment becomes more costly. Sending my best!

Did you take him to the veterinarian? It may be a urinary infection, or diabetes, is there another dog in the house? They may be marking their space.

Hi Gail, sorry you are having problems with your dog going to the bathroom in your house. First I would take the dog to the vet and have it checked out, sometimes they have an infection and will pee everywhere. We have a small dog door with a fenced yard, really is great (at one time we had 7 dogs, not now, just 1). I hope this works out for you. Good luck

Thank you. On Monday I am going to make a vet appointment. Poor little guy! I would feel horrible if it was some type of infection and I let it go this long. Thank you so much!

Wash everywhere he goes with vinegar. If it is carpeting, put soda down and leave it sit. Vacuum and repeat with soda. Slowly pour vinegar on it. Use a towel to sop it up. Let dry compleyely. It is hard to temove fecies from carpeting. You may need to tepeat several times, making the area larger each time. Use a clean towel each time.

Yes, I wasn't sure what to use to clean up so I just use what I have on hand. Good to know the correct way. Thanks again!

We take our dog out often and 75 percent

Of the time he let's us know that he has to go outside. He is due for a vet visit, sooner than later. Thank you all for your response. I just love this home talk!!
