How to remove 'rust' on stainless steel in swimming pool?

unfortunately the stainless steel with rust is fixed to wall of pool and mostly in the water - unless I drain some water out.

i am interested to know what the powdered cleanser might be in Step 2 - is this any powdered cleanser, or cleanser for a particular surface?

Janet, if it's not at a Home Depot type store you can order it online. I use it for all kinds of things and think you'll find it worthwhile having on hand. It gets cloudiness, etc. off glass, cleans stainless steel pots, faucets, ceramic. NOT for plastics, etc. read the label!

I only use the powder.

For your situation, I'd use a wet/damp green scrubbie and sprinkler Barkeeper's Friend on that to use on the railing. You'll probably need to keep adding powder and then a bit more water. It won't hurt the pool.

For greasy things like pans, I use it along with a drop of Dawn soap.
