How do I go about painting my kitchen cabinets?

Good Morning. In my kitchen, my cabinets are not wood. Cannot sure what you would call it,but I was wondering if you could paint it. And how I would go about doing that.

We went ahead and got new wooden cabinets in our kitchen, but I did paint 2 of our bathroom vanities that aren't real wood and I put 2 coats of primer on them before painting and they've held up well with no chipping. I say go for it!
