How can I redo my kitchen outside cabinets also around my sink wall?

Problem is very cheap cardboard cabinet's they are peeling & have some spots & pin size holes in them I thought about contact paper but may come loose wanted to stain them but it being cardboard plus all the flaws also need to fix my counter space around my sink area I'm on a very low income and appreciate your help & opinions thank u
