A friend taught me to use corn meal, rice or anything that will bulk up when wet. (But sprinkle it on dry.) They will carry it back to the queen and when it bulks up in her stomach, it will kill her and therefore the colony.

    Hi Larry,

We have had success with the method described by Mitchmom, we buy Jiffy cornmeal mix-do not bake it-just sprinkle right out of the box. It will kill the workers but not the queen. You will need poison for her.

Another product we have used is Terro, available at DIY stores in the pest control section, just follow package directions. It is a liquid and they love this stuff, so expect to see an increase at first. We also use the Terro when we see a parade of ants on our deck.

Larry, Ants are a necessary part of the world, but when they become intrusive it is time to get rid of them. This remedy is safe, inexpensive, and works for ANY ant. https://www.hometalk.com/36651130/ants-safe-and-effective-cure

Dry Grits. Just sprinkle them around. If it rains...do it again.

Ants do not like mint. You can plant some mint (any variety) where you have an ant problem. Mint is very invasive and will spread rapidly, so beware of other plants close by.
