I've heard it might be tricky. Is it true? What is the best way to that? It's this year's plant. No flowers yet.
They actually don't need pruning, Barbara. If there are dead branches, or it gets overgrown, you can prune it.
You can cut them back taking out about 30 percent of the bush each year. Prune after it blooms so it has time to form new buds for the next year. You can prune out dead wood anytime.
If it gets too much high nitrogen plant food it may put out more leaves than flowers.
