It i loaded with ants. Should I spray the plant and roots with ant Killer. Help//// Frank
If you do that, it will kill the plant. You need to repot it carefully. Do this outside. Spread newspaper on your work surface. Mine is my patio table in the back yard. Take the plant out out of the pot carefully. Remove as much dirt as you can from the roots. Then take your garden hose and rinse the roots to get rid of the ants. Set the cleaned plant aside in the shade on fresh newspaper. Now wash the pot inside and out with dish soap. Repot the plant in fresh ant free potting soil. Water well. It will droop initially, but in a few days it will perk back up. Wrap up the newspaper and soil full of ants and place in a plastic bag and place in your trash bin. Hose the area down. Done, neat and tidy.
So welcome Frank! Happy gardening! 🌿🌞
Mix 1 tsp. boric acid with 6 tablespoons plain sugar and 2 cups of water. Soak cotton balls in it. Poke holes in a small plastic container (I use frosting tubs) then push soaked cotton balls into it . Ants will get into it for the sugar and carry it to the ant hill. This will kill the hill. Don't pour the solution directly on soil as may sterilize the soil, This hint came from a magazine that specializes in organic growing.
I have used a 50/50 mix of boric acid and table sugar to get rid of ants for decades. It works!
