How do I grow roses with the clippings?

Hello Connie, when I clipped a piece of my dads roses I put it in a jug of water for about a week with the jug blacked out from daylight.
After about a week I checked the stem “root” for growth and then I planted it in the evening with fresh water after.
It was blooming within a month after planting in the ground.
