Ants really hate vinegar, and you can make a cheap, easy pesticide just using vinegar and water. Mix a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray it directly onto the ants to kill them, then wipe up the ants using a damp paper towel and discard them.

The Windex brings about the same results, and it's less toxic to humans. ... If you want to rid your house of ants, spray the invaders with Windex, rather than bug spray. It not only stops them dead in their tracks, but it also leaves your windows squeaky clean. Score!

If you don't want to spray, just drop little bits of corn meal on the floor wherever their trail is. They take it back to their nest for the others, but none of them can digest it, so they die. Don't know where, but never seen them again

For a REALLY easy solution, that is permanent, use Grants Ant spikes - indoors too. I have never found them to be effective unless I dig the "goo" out of the hole with a toothpick to get it on the outside of the container.

Then I just place it in the ant trail some place and they go for it like crazy. It may take a couple of days, so DON'T keep wiping ants up as they carry this back to their nest. Suddenly they are GONE forever.

Keep a supply of these handy things on hand, as ants come in to FIND water when it is dry and to get AWAY from water when it is wet!
