I have had lots of animals and know for a fact the only way to get rid of fleas is to get the good stuff at your vet (a bit more expensive, but worth it) you use it every month on every animal. Vacuum, vacuum and vacuum again. Always empty your vacuum canister outside in sealed trash bag. Good luck they can really be nasty.
If you have carpet, I've used BORAX (laundry detergent booster). Sprinkle on carpet like you would with carpet freshener (make a sprinkler out of old plastic canister, or small box)., then Broom Sweep it into the carpet and leave it for a few days. Then vacuum. The moment I spot 1 flea, I do all my carpets. They can lay hundreds of eggs a day, but Borax dries them out and they die. It's also safe for pets. This worked for me several times over the years. I feel better using this than a pesticide type powder. There are also room bug bombs; but you have leave area for 4 hours, then air it out. Be sure to turn of HVAC when doing this. I don't like the bombs as you should also cover eating areas/counters, and dishes inside cabinets.
