Varnish and shellac have a yellow cast and do yellow over time. Three coats of a water based polyurethane should do the trick. Does not yellow

Sometime ago I remember a very young clever boy thought that a " Tee " used to place a golf ball on before hitting was made of plastic and was breaking into pcs when grass cutter etc etc so with the help of his elder he managed to make it out of veg materiel > His patent by now may have expired but I would like to know the recipe to make something different . Does anyone know ?
