RICE. Sprinkle uncooked rice throughout your entire yard & especially around the perimeter of your house. If you find any mounds, sprinkle some directly on the mound & stir slightly with a twig or small stick to enhance the movement of the ants to the rice on the surface. The ants will eat the dry rice & also take some to their queen. Once inside their stomachs, it begins to expand & kills them. Repeat after a heavy rain.

Depends on what type they are and the food they prefer. Check with your local state agricultural agent for particulars. For sugar eaters, a mixture of sugar and water into syrup consistency then dissolving borax in it is effective. Grease eaters though will ignore it.

CAUTION: before you stir up mounds, be sure your area does not have fire ants. Their mounds may vary in appearance but when disturbed they will swarm and aggressively sting you. If you have them you can try to soak the area with a water and orange oil mixture (various recipes online) or get a professional exterminator to deal with them. Again, your local state ag agent can inform you.
