  • Most blockages in the kitchen are a build up of fat and grease. You can use drano to get you started and once you have a slight opening in the blockage add hot water. I know some will say it is a waste of water, but it is so much cheaper than a plumber. I ran my tap on the hotest temp for about 20 minutes and it is better now than it had been in 10 years. The blockage will melt with the hot water.

Remove as much as possible with a snake or drain cleaning tool. Pour ½ cup baking soda then ½ cup white vinegar in the drain and cover, letting sit for 20 minutes. Boil water, remove cover, and pour water down the drain. You may have to repeat the process.

Sometimes the baking soda and vinegar will work and really hot water. If that doesn't work, try a plunger (after you're sure there is no hot water in there!). Then try draino. I like the max one in the red bottle.
