Hi Marie, yep for sure! In fact that's the perfect base for ceramic tile!

Yes I have and it was pretty simple. I purchased a notched trowel made for putting mortar down. I mixed my mortar with a drill with a mixing attachment in a 5 gallon bucket before troweling it on - but you can buy already mixed mortar. The trick was just making sure I always put on the same amount of mortar and kept a four feet long level with me at all times to make sure the tiles were level. Here's a tutorial:

After that my advice would be to make absolutely certain to thoroughly get off ALL the grout from the tops of the tiles before it dries and right have your grout it. If you don't get it off before it dries its basically impossible to remove.

Hi Marie, true concrete is a good base but mostly there is a screed over the concrete so that it is a little easier to lay the tiles properly. Depending on the extent one could use self leveling screed which does not require screed poles and such to get a smooth surface. The other benefit is that you do not have to finish the whole area in one go.
