I have a large rat and cant seem to get the thing to trip any type trap I've set. Live trap, kill trap.
Hi CL. Try putting a bowl of those dried potato flakes out where it, and not your pets, can get to it. Once it eats it, that should be the end of it. Be sure to clear all the rubbish, dead bushes, etc., away from your house so it doesn't have a place to stay. Good Luck
There is a product called Just One Bite. For more detailed check out the product at amazon.
When I lived in the U.S. Virgin Islands, one of the native-born islanders said that if a rat ate a mixture of corn meal and hydraulic cement, the cement would harden in the gut, causing the rat to die. If that is true, I suspect it would die of dehydration. As to where the rat would be when it died - that could be problematic.
If you are related to the rat, you are pretty much out of luck!
I had a large infestation of rats that dared to even fight on my dining room floor for dog food. The mixture of cornmeal and cement sort of worked but one rat rolled around in agony for hours before died. The rat solution never remedied until I got cats. I have indoor cats and feral cats living outside. No more rats.
I don't know anything about rats, but I had a mice problem. I put Irish Spring soap bars all over and it really worked. No mice.
Try peanut butter in the live trap.
