Virginia...Let the lily slightly wilt before watering. The leaves tend to turn brown with too little water.
Check the soil with your fingers to see if it's dry before watering, could also be that it needs to be repotted
Sounds like a plant that is too dry, if overwatered the leaves usually yellow. It is a good idea to check the soil for dampness/dryness.
