How to I replace a veneer table top?

    Hi Barbara, are you looking to try to salvage the top and just replace the veneer or to replace the entire top? Glass is always a nice option, I've seen several folks even use barn doors for table tops, even I made one of those for my deck.

    You could add a plastic laminate (i.e., Formica) to the top. Ensure laminate is larger than the top, spread contact cement to both pieces, Put spacers on the top, and remove them starting at center. Contact cement bonds instantly, so be careful. Trim the excess with a trim router.

    Veneer is difficult to remove and or patch. It is also expensive.

    If you really want to do this, let us know.


    If you want to power sand off the bad veneer, Bondo in a patch, re-sand, prime & paint; that would be inexpensive.
