Gentle Buffing. Light, barely-there scratches buff away easily with a soft cloth dabbed in leather oil or conditioner. Starting from the center of the damaged area, buff the leather in circular motions, working your way out toward the edges. Continue until the scratch disappears. 'Make sure you give your cat a scratching post. Put catnip on it, rub it in. Anytime your cat is near where it may scratch something you don't want them to direct them to the scratching post. Don't get a cheap cheesy one that your cat will ignore. I got my neighbor to cut a large tree piece for me about 18" diameter flat on both sides and about 24 inches tall. Stood it in a large round basket lid and they loved it. Tall enough to stretch out to scratch their claws on. The little ones you buy at stores are not enough for the cat to stretch out naturally and claw. They end up getting their claws stuck in the rope and pull the post down on themselves to be frightened and never use it again.

You'll never get rid of them entirely but a light application of color-matching shoe polish will help. Be sure to really buff it to prevent it discoloring clothing.
