What do you want to recover the counter with? What material is the counter now? Do you want to paint it or tear it out and replace?
I painted one of my bathroom counters and it's still going strong after 8 years. Prep is key. It must be clean before painting and protected after with polyurethane. I used 3 coats. We don't have any kids in the house so that might be why it's lasted so long, but just thought I'd offer it as an option.

Hi Kimmie! I resurfaced our countertops with a 2 part epoxy. Check out Stonecoatcountertops.com youtube videos. It's the best epoxy! They have full tutorials!
