Tile to avoid a too-woody look.

For kitchens, baths, and basements I recommend vinyl plank flooring. Waterproof and resilient. Looks like wood. ceramic, and porcelain tile.

The previous owner that installed my vinyl plank flooring, in my kitchen, did not put a vapor barrier, or water barrier underneath it. Therefore my kitchen spills go through the cracks of the flooring, into the Masonite substrate. Not good.

This is a “flippers’ short cut” that I would not do, in the kitchen.

Personally, I would do ceramic tile with the smallest grout joint possible, preferably no grout joint but that requires gauged tile.

It will last longer than your kitchen cabinets will. You’ll probably be sick of looking at it by then, so I’d pick a tile that is timeless, LOL.

Also select a tile that is not highly polished, or highly glazed, so that there’s no slipping and falling.

I would always use a darker grout, as mentioned in the thinnest grout joint possible, with either acrylic or polymer additive in the grout.

I would go with a tile since you have so much wood. 😊

Go with something a light color since you have so much wood which can seem dark in an area. Either a good quality vinyl tile or porcelain tile. tile can be vary hard on your feet, knees and back while standing on it. Its like being on concrete. I have a bad back and had no idea this would make is worse. I had to put down lots of rubber absorb mats to stand and do dishes.
