Where can I place a decent sized shed?

I built an 8 x 8 shed and I put it so that the door faced the back of my house, that's because thieves are less tempted to break in and steal tools. I ran an electrical wiring, suited for under ground, from the house to the shed so that I could build a work shelf with power. I also put a sensor light on the front and back of the shed, so that if any one walks up to it at night from any direction, the flood lights come on. I placed my shed about 8 ft. from my house which gives me room enough to pull out the lawn mower or the snow blower. I thought my shed would be more than big enough, but boy was I wrong! I have all sorts of tools, 2 lawn mowers, 2 snow blowers, buckets, flower pots, hoses, summer decorations, folding chairs, folding tables, and more and more and more stuff in my shed. If I were you, I would build an 8 x 8 shed and not a 7 x 7. Plywood comes in sheets of 4 x 8 so 2 sheets does one wall, and when making a door, it would be so much easier if the wall was 8 wide. Position the shed so that you can see the door from the windows in your house... I caught 2 boys trying to break into my shed in the afternoon, by happening to look out a window in my mud room. I'm thinking about building another shed just for the lawn mowers and snow blowers, so that I can have the one I have now as just a workshop. I built a 30 inch wide shelf on one side of the shed that has power to it and I use it all of the time, and then I build another shelf on the other side of the shed and use that as my potting shelf. I've never ever had a garage, and I think that's a good thing, cause I'm sure it would end up full of every thing but a car lol. Have fun building.. I loved building mine.

I don't know how much space is on the right side of the garage to the fence. I built a lean to with a shed roof on the side of my garage for my workshop extension. Mine is 6' X 16'. Separate door for the lean to. Wood frame and plywood floor on deck blocks.

I wpuld put it in the far back corner of the lot near the fence so it doesn't take up valuable dpace from the rest of the lot.

It depends on your neighborhood. Ours is very safe, but we did put in motion lights that flood the yard if anyone is back there. If you live in a safe neighborhood without much crime in your town, I would put it in the very back in a corner. Also we built ours 8 x 12 so we would not have to cut any plywood. 8 x 8 would also fit plywood sizes. We also put ours on cinder blocks sitting side by side (not cemented) to keep out skunks, rabbits etc from living under the shed. A ramp might also be considered if you want ease to roll out the lawn mower, snow blower, etc. We use our shed and it is full to gills, ha.

Whatever size you decide on - make the shed pretty. It will take up a large amount of space so make it look like a "destination", a place to go.. Create faux windows, put up shutters, paint the door a different color. Plant flowers on each side or place potted plants. Create a sitting area that connects the space between your house and the shed. Incorporate the shed into the yard so it looks like it has been there forever! In the corner where the table is but leave enuf space around the shed to be able to clean it out when needed and provide any pest control between fence,house & shed. close to house,gate yet out of way easy access. Also if you have any pets consider them jumping up & over fencing from shed(depends on how high roof is,lean to big dogs? cats?) or even onto house. Also base needs to be solid so no pests can inhabit area or if using wood it will remain moist(termites)use treated or treat it yourself. don't put it too far from house where you will be less likely to want to get things(shovels) out of it in winter when you have deep snow(don't know where you live). make it the size of full sheets of plywood(8x12) less cutting and more space so you can walk into it and won't end up making another later when you need additional storage,also a little larger will allow you to insulate maybe at a later time without losing any need space. check local recycling/hazmat center for paints you can get them for free
