How can I prevent tomato and cucumber blight?

Hello Stephanie! I have tried everything too! Last year I used a copper fungicide when I noticed the blight starting. It stopped the blight for a while--giving the plants about a 3-4 weeks more before the blight really set in. I have two raised gardens that I usually only grow tomatoes in. I have changed the soil and this year I planted green beans in one. I am sure the tomatoes in the other garden will get blight eventually. I do cover my dirt with black landscaping fabric and water from below. I also use epsom salt mixed with water in part of my watering rotation. Makes for beautiful tomatoes regardless of losing leaves to blight. It's an ongoing battle especially if the summer is wet.

You may have a number of things going on. The soil may be contaminated with the spores/ fungus, so do not plant in the same area. Clear the area where the blight has occurred and cover with clear heavy plastic for the duration of summer so the heat ( called solarization) will kill the "bad guys". Destroy plants that are contaminated- do not compost them. For plants you have already put in the garden, cover the area under them with cardboard squares or landscape fabric-- protect the leaves from contact with any soil. Watch for cucumber beetles that spread disease as well. A mild solution of peroxide and water 15:1 ratio ( more water than peroxide) can help plants recover somewhat if it's caught early.
