Hot Pan Resting Blocks

I made these pan rests because I really didn’t like putting my hot pans down on my kitchen sides and often ran out of room on the hob. I needed a simple solution that was inexpensive and easy to make for myself. I think I found it!

My pan rests were ridiculously easy to make and look great hanging by the cooker. Here’s how I made mine.

The few tools you need are:

  • Hole punch
  • Nails or screws
  • Hammer or screwdriver
  • Eyelets and punch
  • Varnish
  • Leather cord
  • Wooden circles

First of all, and the most fun part, paint your wood circles. I chose to paint an abstract fire design but you can paint any design or pattern you like that matches your decor or just makes you smile!

You can either leave your wooden circles just painted or add a clear varnish coating at the end. I decided to add a coating but just a very thin layer.

Next, cut your leather cord to size to make your handles. Round the edges off and punch a hole in either end with enough room left for your eyelets, then punch an eyelet into each hole.

Attach your handles with screws or nails leaving enough slack for your hands or fingers to grip through.

And that’s literally it. So simple and effective.

I hope my hack can be useful to you too.

Love the idea, but when you put a hot pot on it doesn’t the paint stick to the pot?

I love this! Super idea, I am going to make some as Christmas gifts! But a question about the poly sealer you used: either way -- plain paint or paint sealed with polycrylic clear top coat, what happens when a hot dish or pot sits on it? Before I give them as gifts I need to know they'll actually stand up to the heat.

    You're very creative!!!!
