Instead off covering up, could you paint, decopauge, or fabric the end of each box? You could do all the same or everyone different. It would be a conversation starter. Could you put part of an image on each box?

Hello, thank you for your reply, they are mostly clear large bins, and cardboard boxes, nothing fancy.

should not block vent/air return;you could hang white sheer curtains on white rods along the ceiling to cover opening, you would neeed to make them long enuf to cover highest part at point then cut them off evenly across bottom so they would be straight across bottom & hang just inside bottom of ledge. use alot of panels to create more obscurring of boxes behind.the sheers would be light weight you may be able to even use a wire/cable to hang them on instead of actual rods would be a cleaner look long the top

You'll have to frame it in and add doors. Need to see if bottom can carry walking wait, may have to tear out ceiling below and add more joists. Also need to have your air vent extended to go out to new wall, may not be as efficient since it will have a right angle to.it.

I agree with Lynn. Can't block the return air grill. Use curtains or leave open and use baskets for storage. Install shelving and colorful boxes or baskets.

Drop that ceiling! Store things in between...

I figured they were just storage boxes. That is why I said just one end. Instead of hiding them, that would make them a feature display.

Could you put a board up there to hide your boxes....a1x6 or however tall you would need it. Paint it wall color or varnish if you wanted to. Or better yet put your storage boxes near the back and put artificial plants, figurines or something in front. Looks like your space is deep.

    Hello there,

What about Roller Blinds, Curtain or Suspended Tapestries or Pictures or Folding Shutter type doors, Balustrade, or Screen.

I like Leah's idea of decorating the boxes in some way to make the area a decorative area. You could cover the bins/boxes with contact paper, gift wrap or paint them in various ways and place them in a way that looks intentional. Add some other accessories and fake greenery and call it good rather than a permanent change to your home.
