My question as I watched these grandparents was always, "Why are you sweeping your yards, and why is there no grass around your house?" We have grass around ours.
Get yourself a hose sprayer nozzle that has a variety of streams. The jet stream would work well, although it's not a wide stream. Experiment with several settings to see what works best. I've used this method to kind of "power wash" a walkway. Of course it isn't as powerful as a power washer, but it will move leaves and loose dirt quite nicely.

hose with good sprayer nozzle on stream and a stiff floor brush would be cheaper than renting a power washer use some dawn dish soap on it too then rinse it off
