I saw a video on YouTube, a guy used a desk lamp, a bowl with a small amount of water and some dish soap. Put a bit of dish soap in the water, place the low sided dish on the floor and position the lamp shining onto the water. Leave it overnight. You'll need to vacuum every little nook and cranny like baseboards, window sills etc aswell but the dish of soap and water seemed to get rid of quite a large amount just overnight.

I would recommend also using some sort of spray like raid flea killer but you should spray it behind baseboards and every corner and shelf etc in your place. It's also suggested to retreat after 3/4 weeks to get rid of any eggs that may have hatched

For fleas in the carpet, I use a generous amount of baking soda shaken over the whole area. Leave it over night and vacuum the next day. Due to the life cycle of these little pests, repeat in about 3-5 days before the newly hatched can reproduce again. You can also do this on furniture. It's great because it's non-toxic and safe for kids and animals.
