In a spray bottle, mix a solution of 2 cups water, 10 drops tea tree oil and 10 drops liquid dish detergent. Spray onto plant leaves, and repeat as necessary to keep insects from attacking your hostas.

If slugs are eating your hostas, sprinkle Epsom Salt on the ground, it dissolves them as they crawl over it. Becareful to not get it on your hostas, it will burn them.

  • Just make sure to spray a small part of the hosta first and don't spray on if the temp is over 90 degrees or it could hurt the hosta plant.

Spray Epsom salt mixed with water on your garden once every 2 weeks

You can also try garlic or hot pepper mixed/soaked in water, spray it over your plants. You will need to reapply after it rains, and for the garlic/hot pepper water mix you may need to do that more often than once every 2 weeks. I'd say watch for it to start wearing off (when u notice bugs/animals starting to come back) and reapply
