How to Shorten Barstools (to Regular Chair Height)
Our friend got some new chairs on Facebook Marketplace but didn't realize that they were actually bar stool height. That obviously wouldn't work for eating at a normal height table (haha). But, they paid money for them and didn't want to throw them out. So, we helped them shorten the barstools to a normal standard chair height.
You can see here the tall stool on the left and the height they wanted on the right.
Use a ruler to mark the height you need to chop off each leg. Measure each leg - you never know when they might not be even, if you're going to do it, do it right.
Use a circular saw to slice cleanly at the marked height.
These stools had horizontal support beams that left small holes in the legs. So, we added wood filler, sanded once dry, and then touched up with stain that color matched the existing color as best as we could. If you don't have holes, you can decide if it needs any sanding or staining. Alternatively, you could use this as an opportunity to sand and stain or paint the whole chair!
Ta-da! You now have shortened your bar stools. Repeat this process on any other stools that you need to shorten.

Hi My friend bought a bench to go with the table and for chairs however the bench is taller like the bar stools should I use the same method for the bench ,my onky concern is the bench has the bar running g feom ome leg to the other should I put those to wood stabilizing bars back or it wont makw a fifferance because now the bench is short and realy does not need that support. Thank you, any input is appreciated.

I have bar stools that need to be shortened about 4 inches. They are built A frame style where the rounded legs gradually widen as approaching the floor. How can I shorten these ? I realize that the cut will be on an angle, and the end will need to be rounded off with sandpaper or such. Please help.

Did you reinforce the chair in any way because the bar was removed?
