How to support air plants?

I have 5 different air plants that I had supported in shells but they have out grown the shells. I have them in sand in a glass dome but am not sure if they can be put in sand upright? Is this ok ? First time air plant owner and have not been able to find anything about using sand for them. Does anyone know?

do you have any drift wood they will cling to it just mist them once a week
If you put them on sand, do not sink the roots. They are as they are named, air plants and survive on the moisture in the air and listing the plant and what roots they have. If they cling to anything it would be raw wood such as suggested in Michelle's suggestion, over time the roots may attach. You could put a piece on top of the sand that is a little bit buried in the sand. They will not cling to the sand.

Ok I am sure I can find some how do you prop them up on it? Sorry I have never owned them before. They were a gift from a friend who passed away and I am trying so hard to keep these little guys alive. How long do you keep them in a water bath?
