There are flowers/plants that thrive in shaded areas, I would make sure that any flowers or plants you get are good in shade.

You could make a raised garden, they are fairly simple, and can be done fairly inexpensively

Look up plants that do well in your area. Find your garden zone and look it up or go to your local nursery and ask them. There are many plants that flower well in shade.

When making a new garden, also take into consideration the amount of moisture the area has. Is it close to overhanging trees. If there are trees, what kind of trees (pine tree needles makes acidic soil, and walnuts are similar). Also what colours do you like? Blues and purples are considered cool colours and recedes in. Red, orange, yellows sre warm-hot colours that pops out. Don't forget green, thats your neutral colour. Lime or yellow greens add contrast. Remember leaf shape, blossom size, blooming time too.

I would til it up, clean it out and add hostas, lily of the valley, maybe hydrandeas, there are so many lovely shade lovers. Begonias love shade too.
