Hi Mary, here's a great article that shares 5 ways to remove mildew and mold naturally - https://www.mnn.com/your-home/at-home/stories/kill-mold-naturally-5-eco-friendly-ideas

Spray Clorox onto the grout in a very well ventilated room.

If mold keeps appearing you could have a moisture problem inside the walls of your bathroom. There could be water leaking into the drywall behind the tile and what's going on behind the tile could be loaded with mold that eventually will pop through on the tile no matter what you use to kill surface mold off the tile. It will keep recurring until you tear everything out and start over. If you're sure that the structure behind your tile is waterproofed and sound (no water leaking into it and sitting there, rotting your wood and destroying your insulation, if any) then look into improving air circulation in the room. If you don't have a fan you can turn on to remove hot steamy air from the bathroom during a shower or bath, do some research into having one installed. If you already have a fan installed, check where it is venting to (you want it to vent all the way outside of your house, not just vent the wet hot air into your attic!) If vented outside you may need to upgrade to a more powerful fan to remove more wet hot air from the room and the house. Some people have windows in the bathroom but it just may not be practical to open and close them constantly when the bathroom is in use because of privacy and/or security concerns, and in winter climates who wants to lets freezing cold air into their room, or hot steamy climates letting that air into your bathroom.

Half water half vinager in a sprayer bottle. Bleach won’t kill. the spores that spread mold, the vinager does.

Vinegar will kill mold spores. Use white cleaning vinegar.

For stubborn areas, soak paper towels or cotton balls in vinegar and let sit for an hour. Test to see if it gets rid of the issue. If so, then rinse away. If not, continue to soak until removed.

Check into wet & forget shower to inhibit future growth. If you have marble, you can't use it.

  • Hi Mary - This is the shower cleaner that we use to help keep grout and tiles clean and minimize the mildew - it works on kitchen grout too. Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly
