A heavy and/or lined fabric can be hung from a rod and you can fold it or roll it up when not in use. Clip or tie in place. When my husband worked nice shift, I made my own panels, using a sheet, quilt batting, a curtain rod and clips. I sandwiched the batting in the sheet, folded in half the long way. Then, I would stitch around the edges and down the middle, to keep the batting from shifting. I used the top, hemmed edge to hang it. When the air conditioner was in the bedroom, I rolled it up to the top edge of the air conditioner and clipped in place with metal clothespins. Simple sewing and easy, inexpensive project. The added benefit was that the batting muffled outside noise and added insulation.

If you have a fabric store, do a cost comparison with “warm windows” fabric. I have worked night shift for a couple of decades, total blackout from those curtians.
