I am unclear as to what to do with this part of my house, "The Breakfast Nook".
These are extremely delicate. Taping the edge with masking tape and scoring with an exacto blade before cutting helps, but there's no guarantee it won't shatter. Most plastic companies cut sheet acrylics with a band saw and fine-toothed blade or a scroll saw.
Very delicately! I had a big, recessed kitchen light fixture in my rental condo, and I needed to replace like, 8 large panels every time somebody moved in or out. They would get greasy and chip over time. I wasted so many sheets trying to cut them to size. Thank God I sold that condo, I hated doing that more than anything else! Good luck to you.
An electric tile cutter works well.
Here's a tutorial that might help: https://www.hunker.com/13416464/how-to-cut-an-acrylic-lighting-panel
they make acrylic knives/scoring blades for this https://toolguyd.com/plastic-scoring-knife/ you score it then snap it to break off like cutting glass Put on heavy work gloves. Cut edges of hard plastic panels can be sharp. Place the hard plastic panel on a flat work surface. Set the metal straight edge along the cutting line and run the acrylic scoring tool four to five times down the cutting line, using the metal straight edge as a guide.
Set the scored edge off of a flat surface, such as a counter top or a table, with the scored line aligned with the edge. Firmly grasp the plastic panel edge with one hand while holding the main section of the panel steady with the other. Pull the plastic panel edge down in one swift motion to snap off the hard plastic panel edge along the scored line.
