If it were me I would use a white or light colored lacy doily runner over it and set some various personal objects you own on it. For example, I did the same thing with a copper windmill my mother gave me yrs ago, a plant that was hers, and some candles I made. I also added some candles in old antique brass holders of my grandmother's. That just an idea to make it feel homey, decorated, and yet use your own collection of sentimental objects. Hope this helps.
