Do I Dead Head Poppies after they bloom?
I dead head my poppies every year, now I'm noticing that the plants are getting sparser, and may a bit unhealthy.Please give me some advice. Thanks,Barbara

You don't need to deadhead poppies if you want them to spread. The seeds are in the flowers. Here's an article that might help you. Wishing you the best.

I don't deadhead plants that produce seeds on the flower. You can also plant the seeds like I do with sunflowers.
How old is the soil that your poppies are growing in?
It could be that if it has become compacted, it is not allowing sufficient water or nutrients to reach the roots of the plant.
Perhaps the soil needs to be dug up, aired, replenished or fertilized?
