How can I clean and refresh old antique upholstery?

I've recently purchased a beautiful antique chair. The upholstery appears to be in good shape but needs to be cleaned. Its a beige color background with a small floral print. I'm afraid to use a commercial cleaner as the chemicals may be a bit harsh. Any recommendations? Thank you for any suggestions/helpicon

Hi Wendy, I would sprinkle baking soda onto the chair and rub in slightly and let it sit for a while and then vacuum the chair really well and see if that helps freshen it.

the type of fabric is the most important thing. A white cloth (old toweling for instance) wrung out in hot water should refresh it and not hurt fabric, but it would help to know what kind of fabric.

Hi..the fabric feels a bit like old tapestry. The char is from around 1910. Here is a picture of the chair😃 Thanks for your help
