Broken guitar, sheet music, magazines - hmm. I created this for some friends of mine who are in a band called Black Cat Road - they are amazing. Look them up facebook or youtube!

Supplies

colorful pages

sheet music

Back from a broken guitar. I taped up the edges because there were some rough spots. I didn't want to sand it because it was a bit fragile at the edges.

First thing you do is roll the page up using a skewer and a WHITE glue stick - the purple or gel ones don't work well as they are too sticky and gooey. Start at the corner. This takes some practice - and you will get a lot of that because you need a lot of the paper tubes! Start with the glue - don't glue the part where you start rolling with the skewer or it will stick to the skewer and you won't be able to get it out.

Start rolling - add glue as needed.

Finish off - make sure the end is securely sealed. you can now slip the tube off the skewer. I made a bunch from the sheet music, and a bunch from all black magazine pages. Pages that have color all the way to edge work best or you will get a striped effect.

Mark out your design, then start gluing them on with mod podge. I did the cat first. When you add a tube cut it so that there are no spaces where the surface shows through.

The tubes will sometimes "pop" open - uncurling themselves. I tried to catch this before it happened after cutting them so I could use the smaller pieces as needed. Just add more glue so they don't unroll.

I trimmed the edge with black cord using a glue gun. The mini washboard is because the lead singer plays a washboard.

This is a piece I helped a client make from her drawing. It is 3-D which I will show in the next photo. I curled a few colored piece with mod podge then attached them for the feathers. We use plastic boards that are used to make signs for the backing. Cardboard tends to curl.
