How can you tell what kind of mushrooms are edible vs poisonous?

Not really in this format. It takes some experience and education to differentiate. Contact your local extension office and ask about education programs.

I've read that even experts are wrong sometimes so you can't ever be positive that eating a wild mushroom is safe. Unless it is a very distinctive variety like a Morell you should leave it alone.
