How to keep gnats away from my face and body?

There has to be some kind of repellant. I looked all over the network and tried a number of things. Nothing works!!!!!! My hubby and I love to be outside but the gnats drive us inside. Not happy!

I have the same issue. When I walk my dogs there are certain areas I walk thru that I am just constantly waving them out of my face! Gnats target mouths, eyes, and ears. Remarkably agile, they elude waving hands and always seem to come back to annoy again. Why do gnats fly in your face? It turns out that many things these insects are drawn to can be found on the human head.Breath, Sweat & Tears

A gnat is always searching for moisture and salt, which are found in sweat and tears. Unfortunately, the pests are vectors for pink eye. They are also drawn to the smell of bad breath and to the carbon dioxide people expel when exhaling.Shampoo and Perfume

Gnats are fond of certain pleasant smells as well. These include sweet and fruity scents like those used in many shampoos, lotions, and perfumes.Preventive Measures

Choosing unscented hair and skin-care products and foregoing fragrance can help reduce gnat conflicts.

Though gnats have been implicated in the spread of conjunctivitis and other diseases in other animals, particularly livestock, it is not often a vector of human disease. Conjunctivitis, stemming from bacterial or viral organisms, are often spread by fingers and fomites, not the gnats.

Put a small bowl or cup near where you are sitting and pour a small amount of of apple cider vinegar in it. The smell of the apples will draw in the gnats and they will drown in the cider. This will draw the gnats away from your face. It really works...I have been doing it for years.

before you go out to sit or for a stroll wipe your skin with 100% pure lavender oil it will repel any biting insects. check to see how sensitive you are to the oil full strength if not tolerable mix with some water in spray bottle and use it that way. the stronger the better. works for flies, gnats mosquitos. spray your hair too.Mosquito dunks or Bits(organic) around your yard, soil, water, all moist areas to kill/stop breeding of gnats and mosquitos and Beneficial Nematodes added to soil stop them from breeding in soil.

When my husband and I were living in Iowa, we were tormented by gnats on our walks until I read about using a mix of water and vanilla. I'd put the mix in a spray bottle and we would "treat" our bodies with the fragrant mix, then happily enjoy our excursions!

This sounds really gross but we lived in a tropical country and gnats kept flying around our face and ears. One of our hired men said they put a drop of kerosene on a cotton ball and tucked it in their ears (not in, just enough to hold the cotton). No problems after that; My husband tried it and it worked. I am thinking anything with alcohol would work. I never tried the kerosene but the worker swore by it. Gross!
