Don't worry, you won't kill it. Just. Cut back and get a,big chunk of the root.

Water it well before moving. Be sure to dig deep enough to get all of the roots. Put into a hole with some compost and water and insert plant., leaving an indentation around the plant to catch the water or rain. You can also add a bit of Shake and Feed fertilizer to the hole before you plant.

Move it when it's dormant depending where you live? mid-late fall before ground freezes. wet soil dig around rootball so you do not damage root systems especially main root(s) keep root ball moist dig new hole 2x the size of root ball(side to side & deep) if ground is really hard add some potting soil into hole then rootball/honeysuckle add remaining dirt you removed then tamp down soil water well until no bubbles are coming up and ground is soaked so no airpockets in ground remain. do not cover base of plant with soil only put in ground to where soil and plant stalks meet. do not add any fertilizer to inside of hole it may burn plant roots. if you feel you must add some do it to top of soil mixing in dirt to outer edges of root ball line/canopy of top of plant and use slow release or water soluble like miracle grow. something easy on plant that will get into soil by the time it begins to regrow in spring.organic compostt mixed into soil is best for soil healthy soil equals healthy plants.treat soil not plants
