Hi Terry, this is Peggy. One of the least expensive ways to update is paint. Changing the color of tile yes you can paint it too. Good luck

Terry: It's not necessary to change the tile. Declutter the bathroom! Change/coordinate the towels and shower curtain. Paint the walls! Get some nice baskets for items.

Paint the vanity and if possible the top to update it. Change out the sink faucet, vanity hardware and the toilet. If you have really obnoxious colored tiles, consider if there is a way to replace only a section in order to update the room. I had Pepto Bismol pink! I took out the tile around the tub/shower (replaced the backer board and caulk also for a new, clean look). I put in the same size tile in a fabulous gray and replaced the top row of pink tile all around the room with gray to tie it all in. It's a doable project on one's own and cost only a couple of hundred dollars for paint, tile, mortar, grout, etc.
