I remove as much as I can, then apply Dawn dish detergent. Let it sit for a few hours, then blot off what you can and rinse it. Then spot treat it again and wash.
This is similar to what I do, Cynthia H. I squirt a small amount of Dawn on the stain, gently rub it then wait 30 min- 1 hour and wash with our other clothes. This simple routine has made sneakers look brand new,too.
